Welcome back to The Overtime Podcast! It was a packed show, as usual, and that’s because Mark and Mike had a lot to say like they always do. I’m sure you’ll enjoy listening to the show as much as I hated editing it (just kidding). I do need to apologize for getting it to you guys a day late, but the website where we host the show was being a bit annoying. It happens.
Anyway, today we feature a close friend of ours, Javier Vazquez, to talk to us about his feelings on many different sports related topics. They started off talking about the NFL Combine and gave their thoughts on the new players and which teams will be picking up the talent. After the break, Mike started his new baseball segment, giving us three baseball news stories. After a little talk about basketball, we wrapped up the show with Mark’s new segment “The Fastest Minute”, in which the hosts and guests have a minute to say whatever they like and Javier made us all laugh by talking about Charlie Sheen.
I’d just like to mention that the Overtime Podcast along with the entire blog will now be migrating to its new home over at Veeda News. Starting Monday, this URL should redirect to the new site and all new shows will be posted there from now on.

Tight end Jeremy Shockey says he is signing with the Panthers. The Former New Orleans Saint, posted a message on his Facebook and Twitter pages Thursday, saying he intends to sign a deal with Carolina. “Looks like I’m signing with Carolina. Time for the Next chapter. This is a great opportunity for me, and I am excited to play football,” Shockey wrote. Shockey, 30, was released last Tuesday by the Saints, who appear ready to move on with promising second-year pro and 2010 third-round draft choice Jimmy Graham and to shed the remaining $4.2 million in base salary left on Shockey’s contract.
After being cut by his former team, AJ Hawk is returning to the Green Bay Packers. AJ was released due to his 10 million dollar salary he was set to make this year. The Packers have resigned Hawk to a Five Year Contract. Financial Terms of the Contract were not disclosed. It is nice to see the Defensive Captain returning to the team. The Packers are now one step closer to winning another Super Bowl.
After a sub-par season (6-10) redskins need to address several positions on their team. I’ll start with the QB Mcnabb didn’t quite work out like Dan Synder would have liked. They have a couple of options one would be keep Mcnabb see if he picks up the new system this year. They can also go the draft route and pick up a rookie, in my opinion they should go with Blaine Gabbert or Jake Locker. Gabbert the more NFL ready but Locker has all the physical tools you look for in a franchise quarterback. Redskins should look to upgrade their RB’s with the departure of Clinton Portis they are left with Ryan Torrain and Keiland Williams. Redskins don’t need to waste a draft pick on a RB but should bring in a free agent or trade for one. Before the Redskins go looking for a RB they’ll need to sure up their Offensive line they should start with a center with the inconsientent Casey Rabach due to injuries they should draft a center mid second early third round. Redskins should also look to add a Left Guard seeing as how they’re very short handed at the position. They are set at the Tight End postion with two studs in Chris Cooley and Fred Davis. The Recievers aren’t as bad as they seem there is potential there Santana Moss is a solid number 2 or slot reciever and with the impressive play of Anthony Armstrong. Redskins should target a reciever in the draft like second round pick WR from Boise State Titus Young would be a good fit.
On the Defensive side of the ball with the Second year in a 3-4 scheme players will have a better feel for the system but some upgrades should be made. Defensive ends is a huge need for the Redskins. If they don’t draft a QB first round they should go with a Defensive end such as Da’Quan Bowers from Clemson this Kid has a non-stop motor led the Nation in sacks and very versatile can fit a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme. They should look to get a DT with Albert Haynesworth crying about the 3-4 and scared of taking double teams, DT is a postion of importance to sure up the defensive anchor. They have great Outside linebackers with Bryan Orakpo and Lorenzo Alexander and they have a good unit inside with Rocky Mcintosh and London Fletcher. Though Redskins should pick up a replacement for London Fletcher because age is catching up to him. Now with the secondary a Corner to play opposite of De’angelo Hall and a Free Safety to play alongside Laron Landry should improve their pass coverage that was one of the worst in the NFL.
The Miami Heat have been desperate for a point guard, and they have their eyes set on the target. Today, The Miami Heat have released Carlos Arroyo in order to make space for the new player. The new player being Mike Bibby. Bibby was part of a big trade that sent him from Atlanta to Washington. Bibby was extremely frustrated with the trade. So frustrated, that he missed his first practice with the Wizards. This led him to do what many thought to be foolish. Bibby agree to give up his entire contract, where he was set to make more to six million, in order to become a free agent and sign with a title contending team. With Mike Bibby, Miami looks to be set at the Point Guard position which will include Mike Bibby & Mario Chalmers. Bibby brings a solid three point shooting to the team, along with his excellent ball handling & Passing ability. Where he lacks in defense, Mario would bring his great defense off the bench for the Heat.
Today Jason Taylor & Kris Jenkins were told some bad news. They, along with Damien Woody, were released by the New York Jets. Rumors also indicate that Vernon Gholston is also being cut by the Jets. While Gholston has not produced during his time with the team, Jenkins, Woody & Taylor have indeed produced for the team. Damien Woody was an awesome line-up, and had it not been for his injuries he would have probably stayed in NY. Kris Jenkins played great in the Jet Defense, but with back to back seasons with knee injuries, his years with the Jets are over. JT seem to be cut due to age and salary. All three are set to grab a lot of attention from teams, but one of them could be going in one direction, south. I believe Jason Taylor may indeed return back to his Miami home and sign with the Miami Dolphins once again. He may have enough in the tank for one more year, in which he can help this young defense play on another level in the field, or he may just sign a one day contract to retire as a Dolphin. But I see him playing one more season as a Dolphin before he signs the retirement papers. What do you think?
After being cut by the Buffalo Bills in Mid-February, Marcus Stroud has found a new team. The New England Patriots have come to an agreement with Stroud. The deal is said to be a Two Year Contract. He will help the patriots defensive line with his pass rushing abilities. The Patriots have not had a solid Defensive End since they traded away Richard Seymour back in 2009.
Troy Murphy is rumored to decide between the Boston Celtics or the Miami Heat, once he is cleared from waivers.
It will be a great addition to either team, but in my opinion he will be a better fit for the Heat due to the lack of rebounding and offensive game, which Murphy provides. Let’s see what goes down tomorrow.
Mike Bibby is rumored to be heading to the Miami Heat, once he is cleared from waiver claims.
Bibby will provide a help to the 3 point game and will help them with the offensive side of the ball. It will be a good addition for the Heat if they can land Bibby.

Melo along with, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter & Renaldo Balkman are heading to New York. The Denver Nuggets receive Reymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, Danillo Gallinari Timofey Mozgov. Denver also received three drafts picks from the knicks along with cash.
